Technical centre pulley overview

The TA05-21A centre bulk pulley kit provides three discrete pulley tooth counts (16T, 17T and 18T) engineered for the Tamiya TA05 series. It is a drop-in scale replacement intended to be mounted in the centre bulk area and to interface with the existing driveline components found on TA05, TA-05IFS and TA05-R chassis.

Use this pulley set to alter the centre-stage gearing without modifying gearbox housings or motor pinion sizes. Adjusting the pulley tooth count changes the final drive ratio and the torque/speed trade-off, permitting accurate lap time tuning for different track layouts and surface conditions.

Fitting requires standard centre-bulk access: remove the centre cover and any drive components in the way, replace the pulley with the selected 16T, 17T or 18T unit, verify axial alignment and gear mesh, then secure with the original fasteners. Rotate the driveline by hand to confirm free movement and correct engagement prior to dynamic testing.

Consider the pulley swap as part of an overall setup strategy that includes pinion and spur choices, motor timing and ESC configuration. This component is intended for model use only and not for any road vehicle application.

Limits are dictated by shaft clearance and centre bulk geometry on listed TA05 variants; do not force pulleys onto shafts that show running clearance issues or bearing play.
Set a consistent mesh using a thin shim or feeler method, check axial runout, and ensure pulleys sit perpendicular to the shaft to avoid localized tooth loading.
Perform a hand-rotation check, run brief low-power tests to monitor temperatures and bearing behaviour, then review lap feedback to determine if further ratio or motor adjustments are needed.
