Technical note: M4WD-31/LB ringless 17mm aluminium ball roller for Mini 4WD

The M4WD-31/LB is a 17mm aluminium ball-type ringless roller intended for 1/32 Tamiya Mini 4WD competition or display chassis. CNC-machined aluminium housing and internal balls reduce rotational resistance compared with polymer rollers while the ringless profile decreases external diameter for tighter clearance setups.

The absence of an external retaining ring alters lateral retention and the interface with stabiliser plates and guards; measure post or shaft diameter, spacer stacks and plate depth before installation. The light-blue anodised finish is primarily cosmetic and will behave like standard anodising under wear and cleaning.

Designed for Mini 4WD platforms accepting 17mm rollers, common compatibility checks include shaft/post diameter, spacer thickness and stabiliser plate clearance. This part is not engineered for Wild or Scale Mini 4WD geometry.

Service and setup: inspect and clear debris from the roller, lubricate internal balls with a light bearing oil, and ensure assembly fasteners do not compress the bearing elements. For tuned rigs verify no lateral bind when run with your chosen stabiliser configuration.

Critical checks are shaft/post diameter, spacer stack thickness and the distance to stabiliser plates. If any of these differ from standard 17mm setups, adapt spacers or collars to maintain axial location.
Ringless rollers reduce outer bulk and can improve clearance on narrow guards, but you may need to use collars or extra spacers to control lateral play; consider this when selecting stabiliser plate depth.
Apply a small quantity of bearing-safe oil to the internal balls after cleaning. Avoid heavy greases and solvent cleaners that degrade anodising or attract dust.
Anodising is cosmetic on the outer body and does not change internal ball operation; however, surface wear can alter mating clearances over long-term abrasive contact.
This component is optimised for standard Mini 4WD 17mm roller applications. Wild and Scale classes have differing constraints and require validation before use.
