Technical spur gear overview for TT-01 TYPE-E

This is a replacement spur gear pack intended for the Tamiya TT-01 TYPE-E platform, supplied under model TT01-28. The kit includes three tooth-count variants - 55T, 58T and 61T - allowing systematic adjustment of overall gear ratio without modifying motor placement or gearbox mounting points.

Tuning strategy: use the 55T gear to increase effective drive ratio for faster acceleration, the 58T for a compromise setup, and the 61T where higher top speed and improved low rpm torque smoothness are required. Keep the existing pinion and motor to evaluate the incremental effect of each spur size on motor load and rpm range.

Installation and checks: replace the TT-01 TYPE-E large spur within the gearbox assembly. On assembly, ensure correct backlash to the motor pinion, confirm concentric seating of the spur on the shaft, and verify bearing engagement without lateral play. Perform a controlled low-speed rotation test and monitor motor current and drivetrain noise prior to full-power runs.

Measure spur outer diameter, bore size and tooth profile against the original part; confirm shaft clearance and bearing support to ensure direct replacement fit.
Lower tooth counts raise mechanical advantage and motor rpm for quicker acceleration, increasing peak current draw; higher tooth counts reduce rpm demand for top speed tuning and smoother low-end torque.
Validate mesh, confirm concentricity, run the drivetrain at low throttle while monitoring for noise or heat, and record motor amp draw to ensure the selected ratio keeps the motor within safe operating limits.
